CAF CL Preview: FC Platinum vs Orlando Pirates

FC Platinum and Orlando Pirates face each other for the first time ever this afternoon, clashing in a Caf Champions League encounter.

The two clubs share Group B with holders Esperance of Tunisia and Guinea’s Horoya‚ who reached last year’s quarterfinals.

The match is at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo and kick-off is at 3 pm. The hosts were forced to change the venue after their Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane was declared unfit to host the games from this phase.

The Zimbabwe champions are likely to receive a hostile reception at Emagumeni as Pirates have a strong fellowship in the City. The Norman Mapeza-coached side will also have to do without attacking midfielder and top goal scorer in 2018, Rodwell Chinyengetere‚ who is now at Baroka FC. New signing Edmore Chirambadare is not yet available to feature for the club and this leaves Lameck Nhamo with all the responsibilities upfront.

Pirates, on the other hand, have a full strength squad with their star frontman Justin Shonga expected to deliver something this afternoon. Zimbabwean winger Kuda Mahachi is likely to start on the bench while Marshall Munetsi could get his way into the starting XI.

The match will be broadcast on SuperSport 4 and live coverage starts at 14:45.

Meanwhile, the South African side was last in Zimbabwe 22 years ago when they beat CAPS United 1-0 away in Harare.
