South Africa head coach Stuart Baxter says he will quit his job if Bafana Bafana fail to qualify for the 2019 African Nations Cup finals in Egypt.

South Africa need at least a draw in their last Afcon qualifier against Libya next month in order to book a place at the tournament.

Baxter who took over the job in May 2017 has a contract with SAFA that runs until the end of the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar.

‘‘If we do not qualify‚ certainly‚ certainly‚ I will tell the FA (Safa) that you had better make sure that you really want me to carry on because I will walk if you want‚” the Briton told reporters on Thursday.

‘And all this nonsense about it will cost them (Safa) a fortune to get rid of me‚ you can ask the guy sitting next to me (Bafana team medic Dr Thulani Ngwenya)‚ it will not cost them a bloody fortune. It will never cost anybody a fortune.”

Bafana and Libya are placed second, and third respectively on the Group E standings with group leaders Nigeria having already booked their place in the finals. The Southern Africans are hoping to qualify for Africa’s biggest tournament for the first time since 2015.
