Club Brugge coach criticised for snubbing Nakamba

Club Brugge coach Ivan Leko has been criticised for snubbing midfielder Marvelous Nakamba in the recent games.

Nakamba has not seen any game time since returning from a red card suspension and has sat out on the bench in the derby encounter against Cercle Brugge and a Europa clash with RB Salzburg.

According to a Belgian newspaper, Het Laatste Nieuws, football analyst and former Club Brugge player, Marc Degryse does not understand why Leko has of late been using Sofyan Amrabat who seems to struggle in that position.

“This is the second time Leko has tinkered with the midfield – last year with Clasie and this time with Amrabat of which the latter is no better than Nakamba or (Matt) Rits,” said Degryse.

“Why does he necessarily want to be right with Amrabat? For me, Nakamba is the purest number ‘6’ in the selection, and he should start in the future.”

The Zimbabwe international was the most prefered central midfielder in the last season and also retained his place in the starting eleven when he came back from an injury which had ruled him out of the opening part of this campaign.
