ZIFA Cup set to return

The Zifa Unity Cup is set to return after more than a decade of absence, according to The Standard.

The tournament, which was first staged in 1962 as the Castle Cup, was last held in 2005. All the football teams in the country including social football teams take part in the event.

Zifa president Felton Kamambo has revealed the plans to revive the competition to the newspaper saying: “The Zifa Cup is definitely on our cards this year. It will be bigger and better than in the past.”

The only knockout tournament in the country at the moment is the Chibuku Super Cup which is for Castle Lager Premier Soccer League teams only. Caps United have won the highest number of Zifa Cup trophies with eight titles while Dynamos have six and Highlanders have three.

Past Zifa leaderships promised to bring back the popular competition but they left the office before that promise was fulfilled.
