S.A based Zim players round-up

Three Zimbabwean players went on target for their respective teams in South Africa over the weekend.

Kudakwashe Mahachi and Walter Musona of Polokwane City returned to the scoresheet after some time while Golden Arrows striker Knox Mutizwa moved to six goals, two behind the leading top scorer in the ABSA Premiership.

Mutizwa hit the target in the 1-1 draw against Chippa United after combining well with fellow Zimbabwean, fullback Divine Lunga to put Golden Arrows in the lead. Lunga had a great run on the far side before setting up the striker who finished off the move on minute 23.

The duo continued to find each other during the course of the game, but nothing yielded from the attacks. Midfielder Danny Phiri also started in Arrows first XI and played the entire ninety minutes.

Elsewhere, Mahachi scored Orlando Pirates’ first goal in the 21st minute in 4-1 victory over AmaZulu. The goal was his third in the league this season. Team-mate and fellow countryman Marshall Munetsi featured in the encounter and his poor pass just after the quarter hour mark resulted in the visitors opening the scoring.

On the Usuthu side, Talent Chawapiwa took part in the game while Ovidy Karuru and Butholezwe Ncube were not in the squad.

Another player to hit the target over the weekend, Musona, ended his goal drought to help Polokwane City grab a point against Kaizer Chiefs. The attacking midfielder had last found the back of the net at the start of January when he netted a brace in his team’s 3-2 victory over Amazulu.

He cancelled out Chiefs’ lead with a superb long-range strike in the 21st minute. Team-mates and fellow countrymen, Charlton Mashumba and goalkeeper George Chigova also started the game along with Chiefs’ Khama Billiat and Teenage Hadebe while midfielder Willard Katsande was not part of the playing squad.

SuperSport United duo of Evans Rusike and Onismor Bhasera were also in action, playing against Baroka’s Rodwell Chinyengetere and goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze while Bloemfontein Celtic fullback Ronald Pfumbidzai featured in a 3-2 loss to Free State Stars.
