S.A based Zim players round-up

AmaZulu attacker Ovidy Karuru went on target for the first time since the end of January, helping his team to beat Bidvest Wits on Saturday.

Karuru scored the second goal of the match in the 81st minute to seal the victory before he was subbed off in the added time. The 29-year old also received a caution during the course of the game.

Talent Chawapiwa started but played until the end of the first half. The 26-year-old has settled well since joining the Durban-based club in the mid-season transfer window and has so far made four appearances.

Other Zimbabweans that featured in the tie include Usuthu midfielder Butholezwe Ncube who played the entire ninety minutes while Wits forward Terrence Dzvukamanja came on in the last ten minutes.

Charlton Mashumba also scored on Saturday in Polokwane City’s 2-0 league win over Golden Arrows. The striker who joined the Limpopo side in the January transfer window hit the target in the 78th minute, a few moments after coming on as a substitute.

Team-mate George Chigova also took part in the encounter along with Arrows trio of Divine Lunga, Knox Mutizwa and Danny Phiri.

City’s Walter Musona was not even in the squad as his team grabbed the full set of points.

The past weekend also saw the return of Willard Katsande who had last played football since coming on as a second-half substitute in the Soweto Derby last month. He had failed to make it into the playing squad in the past three matches.

Katsande was introduced in the 27th minute to replace Philani Zulu in the 1-0 win over Maritzburg United and his contribution came in handy as he brought in a change the midfield.

Team-mate Khama Billiat played a part but was taken off at the halftime. Defender Teenage Hadebe was not in the squad.

Elsewhere, Highlands Park striker Tendai Ndoro and Baroka goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze were also in action along with SuperSport duo of Evans Rusike and Onismor Bhasera.
