Mangala inspires Dynamos to winning start as Ariel Sibanda saves Highlanders against Rhinos

Congolese striker Ngandu Mangala netted a brace which gave Dynamos a winning start against league debutants Mushowani Stars.

The Glamour Boys won 2-0 in a match played at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday.

Mushowani who were the home team started well, retaining more ball possession but failed to get beyond the Dynamos back-line and create meaningful chances. Dembare, on the other hand, struggled to play flowing football with their midfield clearly disjointed.

Dynamos only upped their tempo a few moments into the second period but got the breakthrough in the 75th minute when Mangala struck from outside the box to leave the keeper with no chance.

Mushowani could have grabbed the equaliser four minutes later but goalkeeper Simba Chinani pulled a magnificent save to keep his team in the lead.

Nonetheless, the Central African came back again and put the game to death with three minutes left on the clock.

Across the city, goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda converted a penalty kick which saw Highlanders grabbing a point against Black Rhinos.

The encounter ended in a 1-1 draw as Bosso failed to get an away win in the tie since 2013. Moses Demera broke the deadlock on minute 35 to give Rhinos an advantage before the break.

Sibanda then equalised in the 75th minute from the spot following a handball incident in the box.

In Bulawayo, new signing Clive Augusto scored a brace to add to Simon Munawa’s late strike in Chicken Inn’s 3-1 victory over ten-man ZPC Kariba.

Kauya Katuruturu were left one man short when Ian Nekati was given his marching orders in the 65th minute. Former Highlanders midfielder Nigel Makumbe got the consolation for the visitors on the stroke of full-time.

Chapungu began their campaign on high, thrashing hapless Bulawayo Chiefs 5-0 at Mandava Stadium.

Brighton Mugoni gave the Air Force side an early lead before Allen Tavarwisa doubled the cushion before the quarter hour. Ian Nyoni went on the scoresheet in the 38th minute while Mugoni got his second of the day twelve minutes into the second half.

Nyoni sealed it in the 68th minute as he completed his brace.

Results:
Mushowani Stars 0-2 Dynamos
Black Rhinos 1-1 Highlanders
Chicken Inn 3-1 ZPC Kariba
