Highlanders beat Dynamos to clinch Uhuru Cup

Highlanders clinched their first silverware of the year after beating bitter rivals Dynamos in the 2019 Independence Cup final.

Bosso won the match 2-0, thanks to second-half goals from Bhukhosi Sibanda and Tinashe Makanda.

The Bulawayo giants were clearly the most dominant side throughout the game though Dembare had their moments but failed to find a breakthrough.

The first half didn’t create meaningful chances in the opening stages, and the first highlight came in the 21st minute when Highlanders goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda made a double to deny first Tawanda Macheke and then Ngandu Mangala who tried to mop home the rebound.

Macheke came back a few moments later but again was unlucky as his lofted effort went over the bar.

Highlanders soon regained their pace with Silla vetoed twice by keeper Simba Chinani at the other end.

The teams went to the break in a stalemate, but it was Bosso who started the second period on high.

They opened the scoring four minutes after the restart courtesy of Sibanda’s strike which sailed into the top left corner.

Dynamos tried to creep back into the game with Ngandu Mangala hitting the woodwork on minute 65. They got a penalty five minutes later after Mbongeni Ndlovu handled inside the box. However, Jimmy Tigere stepped up and rattled the crossbar.

Dembare continued to throw more bodies upfront and they paid the price of leaving the defence unattended when Bosso caught them on counter and Makanda’s tap in doubled Bosso’s lead in the 75th minute.

The goal paralysed all Dynamos’ hopes of a comeback and Highlanders managed to hold on as it ended 2-0.
