Chiefs coach explains why Billiat didn’t play in midweek fixture

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has explained his decision to drop Khama Billiat from the matchday squad against Golden Arrows.

Billiat escaped unhurt from a car accident on Sunday and went to miss the game on Tuesday as his team drew 1-1 at home.

Middendorp says the winger’s absence had nothing to do with the crash, but it was due to a hamstring problem sustained in the Nedbank Cup victory on Saturday.

Billiat complained about discomfort after the 4-2 win over Chippa United, a game in which he created two goals and scored the other.

“Immediately after the game in Port Elizabeth, he was already indicating that there were some heavy hamstring issues and the decision was he was not available… let’s leave it like this,” said Middendorp, according to The Citizen.

Meanwhile, the expected date of his return to action is still unknown.
