Man United after Oblak – Report

Manchester United are reportedly in hot pursuit of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak as a potential replacement for under-fire David De Gea.

Despite being arguably United’s best player for the past four seasons, the Spanish international has of late made costly errors and his recent one, a gift to Marcos Alonso for Chelsea’s equaliser, even saw some fans at Old Trafford raising banners calling for his exit.

ESPN reports that Slovakian Oblak is now in the eyes of the United board to replace De Gea, 28, who is heading into the final 12 months of his contract at Old Trafford and might leave for Real Madrid or Paris Saint-German.

With Oblak recently signing a new deal at Atletico Madrid, United will have to trigger his €120 million buy-out clause to enable a move to Manchester.

The English side is said to be already preparing for life without De Gea, despite manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer publicly backing the Spanish international.

“I trust Dave and he is for me, the best player United has had for the last six or seven years. He has been absolutely outstanding. Going through tough patches is just part of the footballer’s career and he will be fine,” Solskjaer said on the eve of the Chelsea game.
