Liverpool produced best away UCL performance for two seasons: Klopp

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp says his side produced their best Champions League away performance for two seasons despite losing 3-0 to Barcelona at Camp Nou in the semi-final, first leg clash at Camp Nou on Wednesday.

The English side dominated possession in the first half but went to the break trailing after Luis Suarez tapped home the ball moments before the half hour.

The Reds were on top again in the second period, but Lionel Messi struck twice late on to stretch the deficit. They had more possession than Barca (57.4%), made more passes (284 compared to 217) and had more shots on target (four compared to three).

“I don’t know if we can play much better,” said Klopp after the match.

“I think it was the best away game in the Champions League – not only this year, last year included.

“I told the boys I’m proud of how we played. Against a side like this, playing this kind of football, I was completely happy.”

The second leg will be played next Tuesday at Anfield Stadium in England.
