Barcelona triumph unforgettable, says Klopp

Jürgen Klopp says he will forever remember the 4-0 victory over Barcelona on Tuesday which sealed their second successive Champions League final.

Liverpool completed one of the greatest comebacks in the European football, overturning a 3-0 first leg deficit, thanks to braces from Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum, a half-time replacement for the injured Andy Robertson.

The triumph is Liverpool’s first ever four-goal comeback in Europe.

“I told the boys ‘because it is you, it is possible, there is a chance.’ Really, they are mentality monsters. The boys had a mix of big heart and football skills, it was unbelievable. I am really proud to be the manager of this team. I will remember it forever,” said Klopp.

The gaffer also hailed the “genius” of Trent Alexander-Arnold for the quick-thinking corner that created Origi’s 79th-minute winner and caught every Barcelona player unawares in the penalty area.

“It was a genius moment from Trent. Wow. I saw the ball flying in the net and I didn’t know who took the corner or who scored. Now I saw it back, incredibly clever. I thought our performance was better than 3-0 in Barcelona and tonight probably Barcelona is better than 4-0,” Klopp added.

Liverpool now awaits the winner between Ajax and Tottenham ahead of the Madrid final set for June 1.
