Chipezeze, Mushekwi, Rusike back in Warriors fold

Elvis Chipezeze has received a national team call-up ahead of the 2019 Afcon.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper who plays for Baroka FC in South Africa was overlooked during the qualifiers with the coaches opting to use Edmore Sibanda as back-up to the first choice George Chigova. His last game in the national team colours was in three years ago.

But following an impressive campaign across Limpopo which saw him helping his team winning a league cup in December, and the need to have three goalkeepers at the Afcon tournament, Chipezeze has been called to fill the gap.

However, he will have to fight for a place in the final squad with another keeper Talbert Shumba of Chapungu who is also in the picture.

Another new face in the squad is Tafadzwa Rusike of Zanaco in Zambia. The midfielder returns to the national team fold for the first time in six years while Tanzania-based Thabani Kamusoko who last featured in 2017 against Liberia also makes his way back to the list.

Nyasha Mushekwi whose ban was lifted last year is among the strikers selected in the preliminary group announced on Tuesday.

The China-based forward could have featured in the last rounds of the qualifiers, but a hip injury kept him out.
