Warriors technical team still wants Nhamoinesu at Afcon

Warriors manager Wellington Mpandare has revealed that they are persuading Costa Nhamoinesu to reconsider his decision to quit international football.

The defender who plays for Sparta Prague in the Czech Republic announced early this month via Twitter that he will not play for the Warriors squad again.

According to NewsDay, Mpandare says the technical team, led by coach Sunday Chidzambwa, are considering including Nhamoinesu, 33, in the squad for Afcon.

“From what I gather, Costa was misled by some people into believing that he is not part of the coach’s plans for the Afcon… So, I have been trying to talk to him. I have sent him some messages and I’m waiting for his response,” Mpandare said.

“Under normal circumstances, he should have spoken to Zifa or members of the technical team before making the announcement public, so I’m also checking the authenticity of the Twitter post.”

The former Masvingo United player was dropped out of the squad for the Afcon qualifiers following an alleged fall out with Chidzambwa ahead of the 2018 COSAFA tournament. Efforts to bring him back to the national colours hit a snag as the player snubbed all calls made to him.
