Official: Asamoah Gyan rescinds decision to retire from international football

Ghana forward Asamoah Gyan has officially announced his availability for national duty, two days after quitting international football.

The 33-year-old released a statement on Monday informing about his decision to retire from playing for his country after coach Kwesi Appiah had taken the captaincy from him.

But following the intervention of the country’s president, Nana Akufo-Addo, the Turkey-based striker has decided to represent Ghana again.

Akufo-Addo and Gyan had a telephone conversation on Tuesday, and the player agreed to make himself available selection in Ghana’s AFCON squad which will begin camping on June 1.
