Ovidy Karuru appeals to Government

Warriors vice-captain Ovidy Karuru has urged the government to consider their plight and support them as they prepare for the 2019 Cosafa and Afcon tournaments.

Karuru was speaking at the send-off dinner held on Monday ahead of the national team’s Cosafa campaign which starts this weekend against the winners in Group A.

The event was graced by acting Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Minister, Kazembe Kazembe, and other senior Government officials.

“We are appealing for support from the Government. Boycotting has never been a thing which we want to do but we also urge the Government to consider the players’ plight,” said Karuru, according to the Herald.

“We really need Government’s support to go further in the tournament. We thank them for coming up with the fund-raising committee, we hope to see a lot coming our way.”

The Warriors will leave for the Cosafa tournament this afternoon with a 30-member squad which will then be trimmed to 23 players who will proceed to the AFCON contest which begins in Egypt on June 21.
