Nigeria coach reveals players he will feature against Zimbabwe

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has stated that players who have seen limited game time at their clubs will feature against Zimbabwe in a friendly match on Saturday.

The Super Eagles mentor revealed at a presser this week ahead of the encounter that the likes of Leon Balogun (Brighton and Hove) and Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City) will be used in the encounter.

“I want to see a lot of players who are not playing so much, give them the opportunity to play,” said Rohr.

“It can be for some defenders like Balogun, he is fit, but he didn’t play so much, so we want to see him playing on Saturday, and also some players like Kelechi (Iheanacho).”

Meanwhile, Alex Iwobi and William Troost-Ekong will not be involved in Saturday’s game and will only join the rest of the team in Egypt ahead of the start of the 2019 Afcon.

Three other squad members – Ahmed Musa, Shehu Abdullahi and Odion Ighalo are also doubtful for the match.

Musa and Abdullahi have gotten an extended break so that they can observe the Ramadan fasting and Sallah festival.
