Sadio Mane out of Senegal’s first 2019 Afcon game

Sadio Mane will miss Senegal’s opening match of their 2019 Afcon campaign against Tanzania, coach Aliou Cisse has confirmed.

The forward who plays for Liverpool will be on suspension after accumulating two yellow cards during the qualifiers.

Mane picked up a yellow card in Senegal’s 1-0 victory against Equatorial Guinea on November 17 and got another booking in a 2-0 victory over Madagascar on March 23.

Coach Cisse, however, seems unworried about the 27-year-old’s absence and thinks the team is still strong without the player.

He said: “His absence should not in any way bother us.

“Certainly the presence of Sadio is beneficial but without him, we remain strong.

“Caf have decided, so we will not linger [on the subject].”

The Teranga Lions are in Group C along with Tanzania, Algeria and Kenya.
