Ex-Uefa president Michel Platini arrested

Former UEFA President Michel Platini has reportedly been arrested on charges of corruption in the Qatar World Cup bidding process.

Platin, 63, was taken into police custody at a station in Paris, France as part of the ongoing investigation. He is accused of being part of a ring which rigged the vote in favour of Qatar to earn the rights to stage the 2022 World Cup.

The allegations are rising from the time the Frenchman was at the president of UEFA. He served in the role for eight years until 2015, when he was banned from football by the Fifa ethics committee.

A close adviser to former French president Nicolas Sarkozy – Claude Gueant has also been questioned on the matter but as a “free suspect”.
