Harare City appoints Harrison replacement

Harare City have appointed Mark Mathe as the substantive coach following the departure of Mark Harrison.

Mathe worked as an assistant to Harrison after arriving at the club at the start of the 2018 season.

The new gaffer took charge of the Sunday’s 1-1 draw with TelOne as Harrison had already left his post.

The Sunshine Boys chief executive Tafadzwa Bhasera confirmed on Wednesday that the Britton quit due to unspecified reasons which she said were personal.

“Our head coach, Mark Harrison, has left his post. He has his own reasons and we had to respect that. We would like to thank him for the work he did for the team in the past one-and-a-half years he has been in charge.

“We wish him all the best in his future endeavours,” said Bhasera.

Harrison had in the past intimated that he was going to quit ‘boring typical African football’ being played by his opponents who often resorted to delaying and time-wasting when in the lead.

The English gaffer also revealed in his last match in charge of the Sunshine Boys, a 2-1 defeat to Herentals, that he was growing frustrated with how the referees are handling their games and was contemplating on quitting.

Meanwhile, Mathe will choose his assistant he will work with during his tenure as the coach.
