Chidzambwa’s untimely resignation- more questions than answers

The news that Sunday ‘Mhofu’ Chidzambwa has resigned as coach of the senior men’s national soccer team, the Warriors, came as a big shock to some, if not all local football fans.

That the former Dynamos mentor was under scrutiny as a result of the team’s dismal performance at AFCON is undoubted, but for him resign two days after naming the provisional squad for the CHAN qualifier against Mauritius makes very little, if not no sense at all.

Whats even more bizarre is the fact that CAPS United midfielder Joel ‘Josta’ Ngodzo, who had been omitted from the initial squad, was called due to “public demand”, something you would rarely see in professional football- public outcry overiding the coach’s decision.

Logically, if Chidzambwa wanted to quit the job, he would have done so soon after AFCON, especially considering that he accepted the blame for the team’s poor showing.

All these considerations put together, tempt one to believe that there are more questions than answers to Chidzambwa’s resignation.
