ZIFA names interim coach to take charge of Warriors CHAN encounter

The Zimbabwe Football Association has announced the interim coaches to take charge of the Warriors in the CHAN Qualifiers against Mauritius this weekend.

The national team’s preparations for the back-to-back second-round fixture were on Wednesday disrupted by the resignation of head coach Sunday Chidzambwa.

The gaffer stepped down from his position following some pressure over the team’s poor performance at the 2019 Afcon.

In a statement posted on ZIFA’s website, Rahman Gumbo will guide the team while Lloyd Mutasa will be the assistant.

“In the interim, Rahman Gumbo assisted by Lloyd Mutasa will lead the technical team for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) assignment against Mauritius,” the statement reads in part.

“We call upon the football family to rally behind the interim technical team as we continue repositioning our game.”

Gumbo and Mutasa worked as assistants during Chidzambwa’s tenure.
