Kaizer Chiefs explain Billiat absence in season opener on Sunday

With Khama Billiat’s future at Kaizer Chiefs still surrounded by uncertainty, the forward’s absence in the season opener against Highlands Park on Sunday fueled speculation regarding his transfer.

The 28-year old has been linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns while several teams from North Africa and Saudi Arabia have declared their interest in the player.

Angolan side Petro de Luanda is also in the picture and reportedly made huge money offer to the Zimbabwean in a bid to lure him to the club.

On their official website yesterday, Chiefs explained Billiat’s absence by saying, “Khama Billiat will not take part in this afternoon’s match as he is on a precautionary injury break after last week’s Carling Black Label Cup. He is expected to return soon.”

Meanwhile, teammate Willard Katsande featured in the game as Amakhosi start the campaign with a 3-2 victory.
