Mangwiro banks on experience

Triangle United coach Taurai Mangwiro is hoping to use his experience in Africa to at least reach the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Sugar Boys start their maiden campaign in Africa this afternoon at Barboufields Stadium against Burundi side Rukinzo.

Mangwiro guided Harare City in the tournament three years ago but were booted out in the first round. He was also part of the technical team when Monomotapa reached the mini-league round a decade ago.

Speaking to Sunday Mail ahead of the preliminary encounter, the gaffer said: “As a coach, I have been in the African Safari first at Monomotapa where we reached the mini-league stages and again with Harare City.

“I spent seven years with the Under-20 national teams, so I can’t say I am short of experience when it comes to continental football.

“With such kind of experience, this is not a learning curve anymore. What I have demanded from my team is a mini-league stage target.

“I have told my players that opportunities like these may come once in life, so they have to utilise them,” Mangwiro added.

Meanwhile, today’s match kicks off at 3 pm.
