Orlando Pirates crash out of CAF C.L in preliminaries

Orlando Pirates crashed out of the Caf Champions League after losing 2-1 on aggregate to Zambian side Green Eagles in the preliminary round.

The Soweto giants were held to a 1-1 draw in the second leg of the tie played in Jo’Burg on Saturday.

Happy Jele hit the target for the hosts on the hour to level the aggregate scoreline, but Eagles responded a minute later with Amit Shamende’s goal which cushioned them with an away goal.

Pirates put all their effort in restoring their lead in the remaining minutes of the game but failed to get the breakthrough as they hit the woodwork twice and going close on countless occasions.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns beat Otoho d’Oyo of Congo Brazzaville 4-0 last night to advance to the first round 5-2 on aggregate.

Goals by Mosa Lebusa, Themba Zwane and a brace by Gaston Sirino guaranteed the Brazilians passage to the next stage of the CAF Champions League.
