Mighty Warriors boycott Olympic qualifier against Zambia

Zimbabwe national women’s team has failed to pitch up for their 2022 Olympic qualifier, second round, second leg encounter which was set for National Sport Stadium at 3 pm on Sunday.

The Mighty Warriors reportedly refused to play in protest over the outstanding bonuses from the COSAFA Women Championship held last month.

They are trailing 5-0 on aggregate after a poor show in the first leg played in Zambia on Wednesday.

The team travelled over 1000km to and from Lusaka by road to fulfill the encounter.

And a few days ago, it was revealed the players will get reduced bonuses for taking part in the qualifier.

Zifa claims the reduced earnings and travelling long trips by road are some of the austerity measures introduced by the association meant to cut spending.

Meanwhile, the second leg will be given to Zambia on a 3-0 scoreline while Zimbabwe who represented Africa at the 2014 Olympics is now facing a heavy punishment which could come as a ban.
