Zambia, S.A friendly match called off due xenophobic attacks in JHB

The friendly match between Zambia and South Africa has been called off due to the on-going xenophobic attacks in Jo’burg.

The encounter was supposed to be played in Lusaka at Nkoloma Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The decision was made following fears by the Zambian FA that violence might erupt during the game due to what is happening in South Africa.

In a statement, the association wrote: “The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) regrets to inform members of the public that the international friendly match between Zambia and South Africa that was scheduled for National Heroes Stadium on Saturday, 7 September 2019 has been called off in view of the prevailing security concerns in South Africa.

“FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala has relayed the message to the South African Football Association (SAFA) about the decision.”

Protesters and looters have targeted foreigners in different parts of Gauteng over the past few days.
