South Africa thump Zimbabwe in Afcon U23 qualifiers

South Africa have picked an enormous advantage after thumping Zimbabwe 5-0 in the first leg of the final round of the 2019 Afcon U23 Qualifiers played in Jo’burg on Friday.

The hosts controlled the game from the start and found the breakthrough just after the quarter-hour courtesy of Kobamelo Kodisang’s effort.

Zimbabwe tried to push forward as they sought for parity but conceded on their end again through Luther Singh on minute 35. Teboho Mokoena added another one five minutes later to make it three before the break.

South Africa continued with their dominance in the second period, and they extended their lead on the hour when Singh netted his second goal of the day.

They came back again with Lyle Foster who sealed the big victory in the 70th minute.

The second leg will be played on Tuesday in Bulawayo.
