ZIFA in dramatic ‘regular’ players u-turn

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has made a dramatic u-turn on the issue of the inclussion of some regular players from the Warriors setup, who had previously been reportedly sidelined on their instruction.

Warriors coach Joey Antipas this month announced his first Warriors squad after taking over from Sunday Chidzambwa on an interim basis, and he excluded regular players like skipper Knowledge Musona, his deputy Ovidy Karuru, Danny Phiri, George Chigova and Edmore Sibanda but many believed ZIFA, who accused some of them of spearheading revolt over money at AFCON, were behind their exclussion.

The national football governing body has however back-tracked in that regard and have allowed Antipas to call Karuru for the World Cup 2022 preliminary round return leg against Somalia slatted for tomorrow at the National Sports Stadium.

The Amazulu midfielder will join the squad together with ZPC Kariba’s Ian Nekati as Antipas looks to bolster his squad for the crucial return leg.

Karuru’s inclussion in the sqaud for the country’s flagship football team will further expose ZIFA’s inconsistence after the Felton Kamambo-led admistration previously denied sticking their noses into Antipas’ selection but appear to have now given him the green light to call up previously sanctioned players.
