Warriors’ date with destiny

The country’s flagship soccer team, the Warriors, play Somalia at the National Sports Stadium today in a game likely to define the destiny of Zimbabwean football.

To many local fans country-wide, the 1-0 loss to the Ocean Stars in the first leg on Thursday was football malpractice, considering that the East Africans had not produced a positive result in a decade.

That is now water under the bridge and Joey Antipas’ men have a big chance to mend the broken hearts of Zimbabweans, who despite all the set-backs associated with the Warriors, always stand by the team.

If they can overturn the first leg deficit, the Alec Mudimu-captained side would not only have put back smiles on the faces of fans but also ensure they are still in with a shot for a place at the world’s greatest soccer spectacle, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
