FC Platinum begin life after Mapeza

FC Platinum’s newly appointed interim coach Lizwe Sweswe will begin his reign this afternoon when his side face UD Songo of Mozambique in the first round of the CAF Champions League at Barbourfields Stadium.

Sweswe took over the team on Thursday following the departure of Norman Mapeza who was at the helm for five years.

Today’s match, however, will not be his first in charge at the Platinum Boys as he has guided the team on several occasions before.

Speaking at the pre-match presser on Friday, the gaffer seemed very much settled ahead of the assignment.

He said: “Coaching is the same, yes it might be my first time to take charge of a team in this competition but it’s not the first time in a football match.

“I have been in charge before when our former boss was on sick leave, there is no pressure at all.

“What is important is to make sure that the team is prepared for the Caf Champions League and I think so far so good, everything is going well.”

Kick-off time is at 3 pm.
