ZIFA breaks silence over banned players allegations

The Zimbabwe Football Association has vehemently denied suggestions that they banned certain players from being selected for national duty on account of disciplinary issues.

Interim Warriors coach Joseph Antipas, in his first squad after replacing Sunday Chidzambwa, left some ‘regular players’ in the squad, notably captain Knowledge Musona, Danny Phiri and George Chigova for the Somalia tie, fuelling speculation that the he (Antipas) was ordered not to consider them for selection.

“There is no player who was banned, the coach is free to select any player he wants to. If you remember there are players like Khama (Billiat), Ovidy (Karuru) who were not part of the first leg but were called up for the second leg,” said the association president Felton Kamambo as qouted by The Herald.

Kamambo’s deputy Philemon Machaya also reiterated that no player was santioned from national team selection.

“Certain things happened in Egypt, which called for banning if we want to be strict, (but) we feel we need to give the players a chance and for, now, no player is banned,” he said.
