Highlanders announce new technical manager, club comments on his fraud allegations

Highlanders have announced Dutchman Hendrikus Pieter de Jongh as the club’s new technical manager.

de Jongh takes over from Mandla Mpofu who has been demoted to the role of an assistant coach. His contract runs until the end of the year with an option to extend and has been tasked to win 75% of the remaining games in the league.

The technical changes follow after Bosso’s unconvincing run which has seen the side winning once in their last six games. The appointment is the second time Highlanders have changed a coach this season after former boss Madinda Ndlovu quit, halfway through the campaign.

A statement by the club confirmed the news.

“Highlanders Football Club is glad to announce Hendrikus Pieter de Jongh as a new addition to the club’s technical structure. de Jongh assumes the role of Technical Manager, and he will work with the current coaches. We wish him and his technical team all the best,” reads the statement.

de Jongh, who was the assistant coach of Eredivisie side AZ for one season in 2009, is not new at Bosso after he was shortlisted for the job in 2015.

He has worked in Kenya, South Africa, Rwanda and most recently in Swaziland where he was the national team coach.

Meanwhile, Highlanders have also commented on the reported fraud case against their new boss. The Dutchman was accused of forging his coaching documents to get a job at an academy in Budapest, Hungary.

According to Bosso CEO, Nhlanhla Dube, they did a background check on the gaffer and heard the coach’s side of the story.
