ZIFA president admits moving FIFA funds to board member account, explains decision

ZIFA president Felton Kamambo has explained why the association moved FIFA funds into an account of an executive board member.

Kamambo and his executive moved the money into an account belonging to a board member Philemon Machana through his company Conduit Holdings.

The ZIFA boss made the admission when he appeared before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Recreation on Thursday along with Machana and the association’s spokesperson, Xolisani Gwesela.

He explained the transaction was done to safeguard the funds after they had received a tip-off that their bank account would be garnished.

“Some of these monies found themselves into the accounts of individual ZIFA members, that is true chairman, I must admit,” said Kamambo, according to The Herald.

“Our intelligence had shown that the account was going to be garnished and FIFA money cannot be used to pay a legacy debt.

“Once that is done, they (FIFA) will stop supporting Zimbabwe (financially).”

ZIFA had their accounts frozen at the start of the month following a garnishee order after a former employee at the association, Lazarus Mhurushomana approached the court.

Mhurushomana was seeking to recover a compensation package of $518,331.81 which he says is still owed following his dismissal in 2004.
