ZIFA mourns Dhana, Chilufya

The Zimbabwe Football Association has joined in the mourning of former local football stars Hamid Dhana and Charles Chilufya who passed away on Sunday.

Dhana who played for Dynamos, Arcadia and Black Rhinos in the 70s and 80s succumbed to colon cancer. He was 61 at the time of his death.

Former Highlanders midfielder Chilufya also passed away on the same day.

The Zambian was part of the trailblazing Bosso team which won the league in 2002 under Eddie May. He also played for Sporting Lions for a short stint in 2003 before returning to the Bulawayo giants the following season.

In a statement on Monday, the local football body said: “ZIFA joins the families and friends of Hamid Dhana and Charles Chilufya in mourning the passing of the former footballers on 29 September.

“Their mark on the history of local football is indelible, and their legacy shall live eternally.

“May their souls rest in eternal peace.”

The Premier Soccer League also sent their condolence message.

The League said: “Sad day for Zim football as we mourn the death of former football stars Hamid Dhana and Charles Chilufya.

“Our deepest condolences to the Dhana and Chilufya families, friends and the entire football fraternity.”
