Katsande reveals retirement plans

Kaizer Chiefs and former Zimbabwe Warriors skipper Willard Katsande has revealed the plans he has in as far as hanging up his boots is concerned.

The 33-year-old defensive midfilder, who has   represented Amakhosi on 281 occasions since joining them from Ajax Cape Town in 2011 and also captained Zimbabwe at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nationa finals in Gabon, hinted retiring at the end of next season.

“My body feels like I am 26, so I can play for a couple of seasons, l am targeting to retire in 2022,” revealed Katsande, to The Sunday Mail.

‘Salt and Vinegar’, as Katsande reffers to himself to the delight of the Amakhosi faithful, also talked about Zimbabwe’s chances of making a maiden appearance at the FIFA World Cup finals.

“I felt some butterflies in my stomach as the game wore on (the dramatic Somalia return leg at the National Sports Stadium). I told myself we couldn’t go out of the World Cup like that, against Somalia of all teams.

“But I am happy that we finally managed to secure the spot in the group stages and we can now go back to the drawing board and correct the mistakes. I am confident we have the pedigree to qualify for our first World Cup appearance because I believe in the players we have in the national team,” said Katsande.
