FC Platinum set new targets in Champions League

Zimbabwe’s representatives in the Champions League FC Platinum are targeting to reach this campaign’s quarter-finals.

The Platinum Boys were drawn in Group B along with North African giants Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia, Al Ahly of Egypt and Al Hilal of Sudan. They are playing in the round for the second consecutive time, and this year the Zvishavane side is determined to qualify for the knockout stage for the first time.

Club chairman Evans Mthombeni told the Chronicle that they are marching closer to realising this vision.

“Our objective was to qualify for the group stages and now that we’ve done so, we want to effectively compete and try to better the number of points we got in the last edition,” he said.

“Last time we made it to the group stages and got two out of a possible 18 points.

“Now we want to better the number of points we amassed and possibly go beyond the group stages and earn another Caf Champions League slot for Zimbabwe.”

FC Platinum get their campaign underway in Sudan at the end of November before hosting Etoile Du Sahel of Tunisia at home in the following week.

Their third Group B encounter is against Al Ahly in Egypt at the end of December.

There will be a six-week break before the teams resume the return fixtures in mid-February 2020. The round completes in the first week of March.
