Mudimu proud of another Warriors call-up

Alec Mudimu is among the 32 players named in the Warriors provisional squad for the upcoming 2021 Afcon Qualifiers against Zambia and Botswana.

The Wales-based centre-back who captained the national team in the World Cup Qualifiers in September says the call-up is a proud moment for him.

Posting on his Twitter, he said: “Always a pleasure to be called up for the National team, a very proud and privileged moment for myself and my family.”

Mudimu, 24, made his competitive debut for Zimbabwe in 2018 when he helped the team win the COSAFA Cup under coach Sunday Chidzambwa. He also played at 2019 Afcon finals held in Egypt four months ago.

The defender has formed a great combination with Teenage Hadabe in the central defence, and interim coach Joey Antipas looks impressed with the pair after retaining them in his first team.

Meanwhile, the Warriors will first meet Botswana at home on the 15th of November before travelling to Lusaka for their second Group H game against Zambia four days later.

North African giants Algeria is another team in the pool but will only meet Zimbabwe next year.
