I won’t be able to play for Zim next month: Rushesha

New Warriors starlet Tivonge Rushesha has expressed doubt if he will be able to feature in the upcoming Afcon qualifiers against Botswana and Zambia.

The Swansea full-back got his first national team call-up on Wednesday when coach Joey Antipas named him in his provisional squad for the two games that will be played in November.

Speaking to the Herald, the 17-year-old Rushesha who was born in Zimbabwe before moving to the UK in 2003 confirmed his local passport expired and will not be able to renew it on time.

“My Zimbabwean passport expired, and the national team manager (Wellington Mpandare) has been in touch, and he is aware that I will not be able to make the squad this time,” he said.

The teenager, however, described the call-up to the Warriors as an honour saying: “I feel privileged to be in such a position… I visit Zimbabwe very often, on average every two years, because that’s where I was born, and it’s home.”

Bournemouth defender Jordan Zemura and Kidderminster Harriers’ Cliff Moyo are also in the same predicament and could miss the matches if they fail to renew their documents on time.

The Warriors get their 2021 Afcon Group H qualifying campaign underway against Botswana at Barbourfields on November 15 before travelling to Zambia four days later.
