Nurkovic brace propels Chiefs to victory over Sundowns

Samir Nurkovic scored in each half as Kaizer Chiefs beat Mamelodi Sundowns in an ABSA Premiership match played today.

The Serbian opened the scoring  in the 7th minute when a cross came from the right, Leonardo Castro flicked and he (Nurkovic) tapped in on the near post.

There were calls for offside but the goal stood.

On the stroke of half time, Sundowns’ Andile Jali missed a sitter which could have seen the teams go to the break level, blazing his effort over the crossbar with the goal yawning. Chief went to the breather ahead.

To Pitso Mosimane’s disbelief, Uruguayan Mauricio Afonso missed yet another sitter just after the break; ball played in, with Daniel Akpeyi beaten, but he missed.

Nurkovic doubled Amakhosi’s advantage on the run off play in the 76th minute,  blasting the ball into the back of the net, off a Billiat touch to send the Amakhosi faithful into frenzy.

The win sees Chiefs go five points clear at the top of the ABSA Premiership ahead of Madandawana.
