The Warriors will begin their 2021 Afcon Qualifiers just under two weeks from now and several foreign-based players in the preliminary squad were in action over the weekend.

Marvelous Nakamba featured the entire ninety minutes of Aston Villa’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool and made some decent contribution.

The midfielder was assigned to man-mark Roberto Firmino in the first half and took to a free role in the second period where he also played well.

His performances in the game earned him plaudits from the British media, with the Birmingham Mail newspaper saying: “He was absolutely everywhere for Villa, everywhere! Liverpool struggled to get past him, such was his dominance in Villa’s three-man midfield. Shouldn’t have been on the losing team.”

Another outstanding player over the weekend was Teenage Hadebe who played in the Yeni Malatyaspor’s 2-2 draw against Kasimpasa in the Turkish Süper Lig.

The defender who was voted in the team of the week in the previous match-day was making his seventh start of the season over the weekend.

Charlton Athletic striker Macauley Bonne made another start when they lost 1-0 to Preston End in the English Championship. The 24-year-old received a yellow card in the deep in the stoppage time.

Adam Chicksen who plays for Bolton Wanderers in the English League One played the entire minutes of the 2-1 victory against Fleetwood Town.

Also in action was Alec Mudimu for his Welsh top-flight club Cefn Druids and Leicester City U23 forward Admiral Muskwe who was subbed off in the second half of the 2-0 victory against Manchester City.

Marshall Munetsi came on from the bench when his side Stade de Reims lost 2-0 at Nice in the French Ligue 1. The midfielder is slowly being incorporated into the team, playing mostly as a substitute.

Tinotenda Kadewere’s Le Havre will play their game today against Nancy in the Ligue 2.

Belgium-based forward Knowledge Musona was again missing from the Anderlecht squad as the 29-year is still waiting for his first appearance in the first team this season.
