I wanted a friendly match before starting Afcon Qualifiers: Antipas

Warriors caretaker coach Joey Antipas says he would have wanted to play at least one international friendly match before they kick-start the 2021 Afcon qualifying campaign.

Zimbabwe did not play any friendly match in the previous FIFA international break in October after ZIFA said they had no money to arrange the games.

In an interview with the NewsDay, the coach said he will work with the available resources so that he can deliver the best result.

“Ideally, we would have wanted a situation where we play at least a friendly match before the start of the campaign,” said Antipas.

“That was, however, not possible as Zifa failed to arrange the friendly during the Fifa break, so we have to do away with what is there.

“We just have to be focused and remain confident of producing good results.”

The national team will face Botswana on the 15th of November at National Sports Stadium in Harare before travelling to Zambia four days later for their second Group H game.

The Botswana match was initially scheduled for Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo, but CAF ordered a change of venue due to a faulty floodlight system at Emagumeni.
