Reason behind Chicksen’s withdrawal from Warriors squad despite getting Zim passport

Warriors team-manager Wellington Mpandare has explained the reason behind Adam Chicksen’s withdrawal from the Warriors team for the Afcon Qualifiers scheduled for next week.

The Bolton Wanderers left back received his Zimbabwean passport on Friday but was missing from the 24-man squad that will go in camp on the 11th of November.

Chicksen who is nearing the end of his 6-month contract with Bolton requested to be excused in the coming games so that he can concentrate at his club and get a new deal.

“He is out of the Warriors’ games,” said Mpandare on ZTN’s football show The Couch.

“Chicksen is supposed to renew his contract (with Bolton) in December.

“Their league will not stop during the international break, so if he comes here during that time he will miss a couple of games and chances of him getting a new contract will be reduced.”

Zimbabwe will face Botswana on November 15 in Harare before travelling to Zambia four days later for their second match in the qualifiers.
