ZIFA explains Bonne’s ‘injury’, clarifies on his future with Zimbabwe

The Zimbabwe Football Association has explained the ‘mysterious’ medical issue which has ruled Macauley Bonne out of the Afcon Qualifiers.

The 24-year old was expected to make his competitive debut for the country in the games against Botswana and Zambia after receiving his Zimbabwean passport last week.

In a statement released on Monday evening, Zifa said the Charlton Athletic striker underwent a heart scan at his English club and will not be able to travel to Zimbabwe.

The association also revealed that Bonne will be available for future national team games.

The forward was in the past few days said to be weighing an option of pursuing his international career with his country of birth – England after getting frustrated with the passport issue.

“Charlton Athletic Football Club has advised that Macauley Bonne had a heart scan today [11/11/19], and will not join the Warriors for the matches against Botswana & Zambia.

“He will feature in future matches when he recovers,” read the statement.

Bonne also issued a statement in the afternoon clarifying his case. However, he didn’t reveal much about his future and only stated that he will be in touch with Warriors team manager Wellington Mpandare.
