Fans bay for Antipas’ blood as Warriors fire blanks under flood lights

Warriors interim coach Joey Antipas walked off the National Sports Stadium pitch to a hostile reception from fans who had thronged the giant venue to watch the AFCON 2021 qualifier between the hosts and Botswana.

The game ended 0-0 with very little to talk about in terms of clear-cut goalscoring opportunities, a scenario which irked some fans considering the quality in the Warriors setup.

Disappointed  fans who spoke to Soccer24 after the final whistle had no kind words for the Chicken Inn coach.

“Antipas is to blame for this result, the team has got quality players but his tactics leave a lot to be desired,” said one fan who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Others belive the coach’s decision to let Amazulu midfielder Ovidy Karuru stay for that long on the pitch was a “very poor” one.

“Ovidy was supposed to be the playmaker, the decision to start him was a strange one but as soon as the coach realized he was not having a good game, he ought to have taken him off because the whole attack revolved around him,” said a Dynamos fan who only idenitified himself as Tinashe.

During the course of the game, fans could be heard singing and chanting insulting songs towards Antipas, as the frustration boiled over.
