Hadebe’s English Premier League ambition

The English Premier League is perhaps every African player’s ultimate football destination, understandably so considering the glamour associated with it and it’s status in world football.

Players like Egyptian star Mohamed Salah and Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, light up European football during their days at AS Roma and Borrusia Dortmund respectively, but still eyed the English Premier League, where they would eventually play for Liverpool and Arsenal subsequently.

For Warriors defender Teenage Hadebe, who plies his trade in Turkey for Yeni Malatyaspor, the dream of playing in the English top flight, arguably the best league in the world, has more to do with being inspired by a brother and teammate, fellow Zimbabwe international and Aston Villa’s Marvelous Nakamba.

Nakamba moved to the Birmingham-based outfit in August this year and has rubber-stamped his way into Dean Smith’s team through impressive displays but his involvement has not only made fans in Zimbabwe proud, but has also inspired Hadebe.

“My dream is to play in the English Premier League where my brother Marvelous is playing right now,’’ Hadebe told The Herald.

“Although I am still adjusting to life in Turkey, for me, this is a stepping stone because I want to eventually play in the English Premier League.

“Marvelous has shown us that it’s possible to play in such a big league like the English Premier League and that has been inspiring us to try and do as well as he has done. “He has been a revelation at Aston Villa, not many people expected that he would settle so quickly and play as well as he has been doing and that gives all of us hope that we can get that far” explained the tall central defender.
