Highlanders player attracts S.A interest – Report

Highlanders full-back MacClive Phiri has reportedly attracted interest from South Africa.

According to the Chronicle, Bidvest Wits scouts were present at Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday during the Chibuku Super Cup final to monitor him.

When asked about Phiri’s news, spokesperson Ronald Moyo said the club was not aware of the presence of Wits scouts at the final.

“We didn’t know that there were scouts tracking the player, but that really doesn’t come as a shock because of the way Highlanders have been performing,” said Moyo.

Should the ABSA Premiership side decides to sign Phiri, Bosso could lose out on transfer fees. He is one of the three players, others being midfielders Nqobizitha Masuku and Denzel Khumalo, whose contracts expire at the end of the month.

Moyo adds that they are negotiating with the player for a contract extension.

“It’s public knowledge that Phiri’s contract expires at the end of December and as a club, we have notified the player that he is in our plans for next season, hence the commencement of contract negotiations,” he said.
