FIFA World Rankings: Mighty Warriors’ disappointing campaign sees them finish 2019 outside Top 100

Mighty Warriors will finish 2019 outside the Top 100 of FIFA Women’s World Rankings.

Zimbabwe had a relatively disappointing campaign this year in which they failed to fulfill some of their assignments due to budget constraints.

The women’s national side was eliminated from 2020 Olympic qualifiers by Zambia who won the second round fixture 8-0 on aggregate. The Sithethelelwe Sibanda-coached team, Africa’s representatives at the 2016 Olympic games, boycotted the second leg in protest over ZIFA’s failure to pay the girls their outstanding dues.

The drama followed after a shocking 5-0 defeat in Lusaka in the first leg.

The little success at 2019 COSAFA Women’s Championship when they finished third at the tournament has had less impact on the latest world ranking as Zimbabwe will finish the year on number 109, two places up from the previous standings.

Meanwhile, the Mighty Warriors will return to action in April against Mauritius in the first round of the 2020 African Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers.
