Fifa announce dates for 2022 World Cup

Fifa has announced the dates for the 2022 World Cup tournament set for Qatar.

The competition will start on the 21st November with the final taking place on the 18th December at the at 80,000-seat Lusail Stadium in Lusail.

Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, will be the stage for hosts Qatar to get the tournament underway. Kick-off time for the opening tie is  at 12 pm CAT.

Four matches will played per day during the group stages with first encounter of the day starting at 12pm, followed by a 3 pm kick-off. The games continue at 6 pm then round-up at 9 pm.

The final group matches will begin at simultaneous times while the knockout-stage timings being 5 pm and 9 pm.

The dates were moved from the traditional June/July period to avoid the high temperatures that happen during that time.

Unlike its qualifying campaign, the schedule of the World Cup finals was not affected by the outbreak of the coronavirus.
