Ernst Middendorp leaves Ethiopian side St George a month after signing contract

Ernst Middendorp has resigned as the head coach of Ethiopian side St George, just a month after joining the club.

The former Kaizer Chiefs coach signed a three-year deal in mid-October. He has left the club after expressing security concerns in the East African country.

The club released a statement on Tuesday, informing about the development.

“Coach Ernst Middendorp, a German coach who recently signed up to coach St. George for three years, has asked the board to allow him to leave because he is concerned about the situation in the country…

“The St. George’s Board of Directors has decided to pay the coach two months’ salary in accordance with the terms of the contract, although the coach’s request was unfounded and unconvincing.

“David Maher, who was an assistant, has been appointed interim coach.”
